Unhealthy Salads That Will Ruin Your Six Pack

In some instances, your diet would be better off with bacon cheeseburgers instead of these high calorie, incredibly unhealthy salads.

I’m fairly certain that we, as a nation, have been brainwashed into thinking that a salad is always a healthy choice. But let me tell you, if you are adding certain condiments and toppings, you may as well have a bacon cheeseburger with well done french fries because you aren’t fooling those extra 5 pounds covering up that six pack.

The number one unhealthy salad?? This probably comes as no surprise to many of you: CAESAR!!

Caesar salads are infuriating. Really. Creamy dressing, multiple types of cheese and croutons. Then they throw on grilled chicken in an attempt to make it healthy? There aren’t even any tomatoes or other veggies. Gross. Skip!

Unfortunately, caesar salads aren’t the only faux-healthy meals that are out to get you. Many other salads contain well over 600-700 calories, maybe even double that much.

Although I don’t usually think calories are worth discussing, lets just look at ’em for fun. Just this once. Lets compare a couple of different salads to an In-n-Out cheeseburger:

Oh man. Wasting the majority of a days calories on a SALAD? And that’s not even including that appetizer, a piece or two of bread and olive oil, or beer (light!). If you didn’t notice, you could potentially have three in-n-out cheeseburgers for one Waldorf Salad – Yeah, I think we are on the same page now. So what are you to do??

Rule of life:
Dressing on the side!! Always. I know it might be weird to ask at first, but they drench these suckers in a sick amount of oil. And creamy dressings aremade of god only knows what- Skip anything that says creamy or Caesar.

If you’re not down with asking for dressing on the side, we have other options:

  • Ask about other dressing options and if they have any "light" dressings, go for that.
  • Go for olive oil and vinegar. Always safe and you will be in total control of quantity.

Other ways to healthy up that salad:

  • Go with either cheese OR bacon bits. Really, one is plenty.
  • If you’re having bread, skip the croutons on the salad. Or vice –versa. Get which ever is more satisfying to you.
  • Avoid anything that includes the word "crusted" or "coated" or "battered"– pecan crusted chicken is NOT that double chin’s friend. Instead go for grilled or seared for shrimp, chicken, salmon, tuna, etc.

Good luck out there… cuz who CAN you trust when you can’t even trust a SALAD?
