1R Contributor Spotlight: Carolyn Brown

An exclusive interview with 1R contributor Carolyn Brown

Carolyn Brown, also known as CB or CBizz to some of her highly esteemed colleagues, has been a 1R contributor since day one. Known for her witty posts on everyday health issues, Dr. Brown has tackled issues ranging from Hangover Prevention Tips to The 10 Worst Foods You Ate as a Kid and everything in between. We sat down with the first lady of 1R Nutrition to discuss her thoughts on diets, athletes, and… mating. Here’s what came of the discussion:

1. Why do you do what you do?

Because it’s a freaking awesome job. There are a million reasons but it’s a hobby I was lucky to make into a career. I’m a total science nerd at heart and fascinated by how our bodies function. And what you choose to eat affects your energy, focus, mood, appearance and health – really your whole quality of life.

2. If you eliminate one food from Earth, what would it be and why?

Hmmm… On a professional level I would love to see the extinction of soda, obviously. On a personal level: I loathe ketchup.

3. What’s the worst thing you eat regularly?

Wine. And in case you were curious my absolute favorite is Cakebread Cellars chardonnay and my birthday is on Thanksgiving…hint hint

4. If you could mate two foods to create a super food child, what foods would mate, and what would they create?

I’d like pink lady apples and raw almond butter to get it on. The result would be an apple almond extravaganza: perfect bite of alternating layers sprinkled in Himalyan sea salt.

5. What’s the funniest diet you’ve ever heard of?

Funny in a ‘I can’t believe people this stupid actually exist’ kinda way: The Tapeworm Diet. Anyone who would purposely ingest a parasite to lose weight should be prohibited from reproducing.

6. Word on the street is that you used to be quite the soccer player back in your day. What’s your favorite sports moment?

Yeah, soccer was my life. I played on the same team from 3rd grade until college. We were good but mostly we were feisty and competitive and very protective of one another. Anyway, the sports moment: One of our most exhausting games was against some much older and much larger crap-talking Swedish women. We were in the last minute and after a series of amazing passes my teammate scored a movie worthy goal off of a header. And simultaneously broke her nose. It’s the only time double black eyes on a chick have been completely badass.

7. Favorite protein shake?

Tera’s Whey Organic in bourbon vanilla, frozen mixed berries, plain coconut milk, a tbsp of chia seeds and a few Nu Drops (stevia). I’m getting more experimental with the greens and herb additions so a handful of spinach or a few sprigs of mint.

8. Favorite athlete?

Tim Riggins.

9. Some of our more sensitive 1R members were hoping that you might be able to provide your phone number. Thoughts?

HA! I’m blushing but I would totally love to hear from you. Give me a ring at (917) – NOTACHANCE.
